Another fun tasting with friends - NOTES INSIDE

Had a great tasting with friends who requested some wines from all over the world. These are what I could find in a pinch and I am proud of the selections!

  1. 2018 Famille Mousse Special Club ‘Les Fortes terries’ - 100% Meunier. I am reallllllly Loving mounier wines rn. Single-parcel Meunier from old vines in the Vallée de la Marne, bottled only in top vintages. More vinous than crowd-pleasing.

Palate: baked apple, quince, lemon curd, toasted brioche, crushed chalk. Firm acid spine, subtle oxidative edge, long savory finish

  1. 2024 Los Bermejos Malvasía Seco: 100% Malavasia Volcanica Lanzarote, Canary Islands : SO DAMN GOOD GOING BACK FOR A CASE AT 25$ a bottle!! Volcanic white grown in hand-dug craters, Atlantic-influenced and unmistakable.

Palate: lime zest, grapefruit pith, saline spray, crushed lava rock, faint smokiness. Bone dry, angular, insanely mineral.

  1. 2023 FX Pichler ‘Kellerburg’ Gruner Veltliner Wachau Austria : longest finish I’ve ever experienced on a white wine. Went on for AGES. Smaragd Grüner from steep primary rock terraces. Dense but perfectly balanced.

Palate: ripe pear, yellow apple, peach pit, white pepper, wet stone. Powerful mid-palate with saline minerality and a laser-focused finish.

  1. 2021 Catena Zapata ‘White Bones’ Chardonnay Adrianna Gaultarry Vineyards Uco Valley nose smells like York peppermint patties is so damn unique. High-altitude, limestone-driven Chardonnay with Chablis-like tension and power. Palate: lemon oil, green apple, white flowers, flint, oyster shell. Intense acidity, chalky texture, long and precise.

  2. 2022 Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir Henel en Aarde South Africa : this is just a damn good Pinot. Zero complaints and everyone loves it. Palate: sour cherry, red currant, rose petal, forest floor, subtle spice. Bright acidity, fine tannins, earthy and delicate.

  3. 2019 GARAGE WINE CO Cru Truquielmu Maule valley, Chile: Field Blend of Majority Carignan. If you can find garage wines buy whatever you can. They never miss!!!

Old-vine Carignan-dominant field blend from granitic soils; wild, site-expressive Chile. Palate: tart red berries, dried oregano, leather, iron, dusty earth. High energy, grippy tannins, savory and honest.

  1. 1987 Alanhueser Kruznacher Riesling Kabinett from nahe Germany. at 38 years old the high acid carries the sweetness. It’s so damn fresh still at 8% ABV

lime juice, green apple, white peach, slate, hint of honey. Feather-light body, razor acidity, insanely drinkable.

WINNERS OF THE NIGHT: GARAGE WINE CO AND MALAVASIA SECO
