2004 Elivette, Spring Mountain
| Yes this is from LB! Saw some of the mixed reviews of these older vintages being sold at discount so I was excited to see what I’d get. Came in yesterday. No decanting / aerating - probably too delicate for that, and from what I’m tasting it doesn’t need it. Nose needed a min to settle - dark, subtle stewed fruits…some grape vine earthiness, nothing fantastic. Taste is spot on though for what I’d expect for a wine that may be a little past peak but from a good year in Napa. Still a hint of fruit, very smooth tannins, strong raw olive notes, very well balanced acidity, dark tart overripe plum. Not exceptionally complex by any means, but it’s been well preserved for 21 years. Gives you an acceptable taste of well-aged Napa wine for an extreme value. Very faint astringency on the finish but it’s not harsh and to be expected I think. I have some 2013’s as well that I will compare soon. [link] [comments] |
