Pre-Storm Cocktail: Jack Rose

Pre-Storm Cocktail: Jack Rose

What are you guys drinking for the blizzard coming up? (That is, if you are one of the many Americans in the path of the winter storm about to sweep across the nation.)

I personally shook up a Jack Rose, which is new to me but carries a rather historic pedigree dating to the 1920’s. Applejack is a rare liquor to find in a classic cocktail but I think this cocktail is quite a delightful sipper. I tweaked the ratios a little bit to each their own, I suppose. My particular ratios are as follows, although slightly off the IBA specifications:

1 1/2 ounces applejack or apple brandy (I bumped it to 2 oz of Laird’s)

3/4 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed

1/2 ounce grenadine (I bumped it to 3/4 oz and used Morganthaler’s excellent recipe.)

Anyway, what are you drinking?
